Launch of the 7th Edition of the Monastery Magazine Tholewa

October 2026

On 13 October 2026, Ngagyur Dundul Raptenling Monastery in Chandragiri, Odisha, launched the 7th edition of its magazine, Tholewa. The launch was part of the monastery’s celebration of the parinirvana anniversary of Kunkhyen Jigme Lingpa, which falls on the 3rd day of the 9th month of the Tibetan Royal Year 2153.

A launch on an auspicious day

Kunkhyen Jigme Lingpa (1729–1798) was a great holder of the teachings and a learned and accomplished master of the Nyingma (Early Translation) tradition. On his anniversary, the monks and students gathered with teachers, the leaders of Camp No. 3 and many members of the public. The students of the shedra (monastic college) and school presented their learning through exposition, debate and composition. You can read more about the parinirvana anniversary celebration.

Inside this edition

The 146-page edition, written mainly in Tibetan, opens with a biography of Kyabje Dudjom Sangye Pema Shepa Rinpoche. It goes on to teachings: practical advice for mountain retreat, and a commentary on the Seven Line Prayer to Guru Rinpoche.

A large section of poetry and praise follows. It includes verses to the damaru and kangling, aspiration prayers, a praise for the newly built Zangdok Palri, praises to Dudjom Rinpoche, father and son, and a song for Dundul Raptenling.

Students of the shedra and school contribute essays on impermanence, parents, teachers, friendship and life today. The issue closes with photos of the year: the second Great Guru Padmasambhava Monlam at Udayagiri, Odisha, the anniversary of Kunkhyen Mipham Rinpoche with exposition, debate and composition, and the end-of-year examinations.
